Scammer Survivors

Today, I met (in person) a beautiful woman who was scammed and victimized by the same dating scammer that I was.

The same story, oil engineer, some of the same pictures- EXACT same pictures with different heads in them. Same general story line. She too had searched extensively online to find anything to reassure her that her gut feeling was wrong. But it wasn’t.

He obviously is adapting his storyline to be more convincing, as he had his ‘mother’ call her, background and side conversations to lend to his credibility. Lowering his initial bait amount to a more acceptable rate.

The terrifying thing is the lengths and attention to details that these people are willing to go to, in order to extort money.

The commonalities of she and I were also, scary similar.

Deep seated loss and heartbreak.

Starved for another human to find us desirable based solely on our existence on earth.

Someone who takes an interest in what makes us who we are.

An escape from the harshness of our relatively new realities.

We both learned that there is something to be said for chivalry, attention, and chemistry.

Alfred Lord Tennyson famously said that “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.” This quote is annoying. Mostly because it seems to romanticize heartbreak. There is NOTHING romantic about heartbreak. If you get turned on by the ‘ugly cry’ there is something wrong with you.

I never wanted to be this lonely. But. Staying in a relationship that isn’t real, is not the answer.

Compromising who you are to keep from rocking the boat, NOT the answer.

Yes, I fell in love with a catfish. Got hurt. But I survived. So did my beautiful new friend ❤️
